Sitting Women High Court Judges of India

Chief Justice of India, Justice Dr. D.Y. Chandrachud has spearheaded a Collegium which has brought in 17 Judges to Supreme Court of India. None of them is a Woman. Justice Hima Kohli retired a few days ago and prayed, may Justice Chandrachud’s led Collegium bring in a Woman Judge. SCI history has had only 11 Woman Judges, including Justice Kohli. Will our 12th arrive? There are 95* Women Sitting Judges of our HCs, including 2 Women who are Chief Justices – one a CJ of Uttarakhand High Court and the other a CJ of Gujarat HC. Will the 12th be one of them 2 or someone else?

What has been created should help even in future. I owe much to Mr. Mohan Krishnan. We had to keep aside Addl. Judges of HCs not made Permanent yet. Thus, for instance, L.C. Victoria Gowri, an Addl. Judge of Madras HC since February 2023, or Sudeepti Sharma and Kirti Singh, Addl. Judges of P&H HC since November 2023, are not present hereinbelow.

*Update on 28.10.2024 – Senior-Most, Justice Ritu Bahri has retired. 4 Addl. Judges have been made Permanent, including Justice L.C. Victoria Gowri.

*Update on 26.03.2025 – Sudeepti Sharma and Kirti Singh, Addl. Judges of P&H HC, have been made Permanent.
