Commissioner of Police, New Delhi v. Mehar Singh, (2013) 7 SCC 685 while considering a case of antecedents verification, for appointment into Delhi Police Service, observed, a candidate wishing to join Police Force must be a person having impeccable character and integrity.

In a case where candidates have been acquitted in a criminal case, it has to be examined as to whether the person was completely exonerated or not. Union Territory, Chandigarh Administration v. Pradeep Kumar, (2018) 1 SCC 797 held, decision of a Screening Committee, regarding suitability of candidate, being not actuated by mala fide, is to be respected.

There can be no dispute to the above preposition. But, there can be other valid reasons for not sustaining the decision of the Screening/Selection Committee apart from the ground of mala fide. Any arbitrary decision taken can very well be interfered by Constitutional Courts.
